Ensure that Microsoft Video for Windows (TM) and Intel Indeo R4.1 drivers are installed by doing the following: Start Windows (TM). In the 'Program Manager' double-click on the icon called 'Main' and then on the 'Control Panel' icon. Double-click on the Drivers icon. A list of installed drivers will appear. Check that the list includes: Intel Indeo (TM) R4.1 and [MCI] Microsoft Video for Windows (TM) If either of these drivers are missing, you will need to install them from the CD-ROM by doing the following: In Program Manager, click on 'File' and then 'Run'. In the box type D:\INSTALL\INDEO41\INSTALL.EXE ( If you are not using D as your CD-ROM drive, replace D with the appropriate letter.) [b] Video plays, but is very jumpy or "Lip Synchronisation" is poor. The following instructions describe how to edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to improve file caching, and thereby improve video playback. In Program Manager double-click on the 'Accessories' group. Double- click on the 'Notepad' icon. Click on 'File' and then 'Open'. Use the file box to find your AUTOEXEC.BAT file which is usually located in your C:\ directory. Open this file by double-clicking on it. A copy of the AUTOEXEC.BAT file should now be visible in your notepad. Save a copy of this file as AUTOEXEC.OLD before you start making changes. There should be a line of text in the file which includes MSCDEX.EXE and also one that includes SMARTDRV.EXE. Find these lines - they will look simular to, but not neccessarily the same as: C:\DOS\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD001 /M:10 C:\WINDOWS\SMARTDRV.EXE /U /X 2048 128 It is important that these two lines are in the order shown. If they are in the wrong order, swap them round. If the line which includes SMARTDRV.EXE is missing, add it as shown above. Otherwise, edit the line so it includes the optional parameters /U /X 2048 128 ( as shown in the example ). Now click 'File' and 'Save', and then 'File' and 'Exit'. You will need to re-start your machine before these changes take effect. For more information on SMARTDRV, see your Windows or DOS documentation. (2) Problems with the Video - Windows 95 ==================================== [a] Video does not play. Ensure that Microsoft Video for Windows (TM) and Intel Indeo R4.1 drivers are installed by doing the following. Start Windows 95 (TM). Click on 'Start' Click on 'Settings' Click on 'Control Panel' Double-click on the 'Multimedia' icon. Click on the tab called 'Advanced'. The screen should show a list of Multimedia Devices. Click on the '+' symbol next to 'Media Control Devices'. There should be an item called 'Motion Video Device'. Highlight this item and click on the 'Properties' button. 'Use this Media Control Device' should be selected. Click on 'OK' to return to the 'Multimedia Devices' list. Click on the '+' symbol beside Video Compression Codecs. There should be an an item listed called 'Indeo(R) video interactive R4.1 by Intel'. If either or both of the above items are not present, install them from the CD-ROM by doing the following: Click on 'Start' and then 'Run'. Type D:\INSTALL\INDEO41\INSTALL.EXE ( If you are not using D as your CD-ROM drive, replace D with the appropriate letter.) (3) Colour - All Systems ==================== The product has been designed to use 64000 or more colours, and requires high or true colour display settings to be used. Consult your Windows (TM) help files for guidence on how to change your display colour settings. Machines which are set for 256 colours will display an error message when you attempt to run the product. Some machines are unable to use more than 256 colours, or may require upgrading. Please consult your hardware vendor if you wish to find out if your machine can utilise a 'high colour' or 'true colour' display. (4) Error Message: This program will not run in DOS mode ==================================================== If you get this message when attempting to run Orchestra on a Windows 3.1x machine then you need to install Win32s. Do this by running the the SETUP.EXE program in the INSTALL\WIN32S directory on the CD-ROM. (5) Running the Product on a Minimum Specification Machine ====================================================== Video may be jerky and audio may stutter slightly when used on minimum specification machines. Screen transitions and responses to mouse actions may be slow.
